Toronto: The Master of Opportunities

– Toronto seemed already like a very open Masters-1000 with the withdrawals of Federer, Nadal ( sidelined with knee injury since Wimbledon R2), Ferrer, Almagro, Verdasco, Roddick.., and with the early results of the tournament ( Tsonga, Del Potro, Simon and Nishikori were out early) the draw became very weak, and it got even worse when Murray withdrew before playing his R3 match vs Milos Raonic, seeded for the first time on a Masters 1000.
The first half of the draw keeps just 3 of the 8 top-16 seeds which started the tournament [ 1st seed Djokovic, 5th seed Tipsarevic and 10th seed Marin Cilic]. The 2nd half kept all of the 8 top-16 seeds in their half before R3, but with the Murray WO and Berdych 64 62 loss to Gasquet, one of this 5 men will play a Masters-1000 final: Isner, Kohlschreiber, Fish, Gasquet or Raonic. This is a golden chance for every one of them to add many points to their ranking and also to add some Masters 1000 success to their career highlights. In the top half Djokovic should have no problem in advancing to the final, but there are some great chances for some players to get a career best M-1000 showing or to get some late success, like the 34 year old clash between Haas & Stepanek for having a place in the QF. Janko Tipsarevic is already on the QF and should make his third Masters SF against Granollers or Chardy, who have a golden opportunity here.

* Also, I would like to add that the whole singles action on Thursday was cancelled due to rain.
*2- Nadal, Tsonga ( because of a car accident in the streets of Toronto in which he injured his knee), Almagro, Verdasco and Monfils have already withdrawn from Cincinatti.
