Remember Who?- Evgeny Korolev

– Remember that guy who hit really hard and was as high as #46 in the world in 2010? He is now ranked #313, and he just beated comeback kid and Nice finalist Brian Baker. He made his breakthrough in 2006, making the Top-100 at 18, and got a best season in 2009.

Some facts:

First Top-10 win: Nikolay Davydenko at Marseille R2 @ 2006.
Best ATP result: Delray Beach F 2008 [ lost to Fish].
Best GS result: Australian Open R3 2010 [ lost to Gonzalez in 5 sets ].
Best M-1000 result: Indian Wells R3 2007 & Rome R2 2008 [ lost to Djokovic & Gonzalez].
Good Wins: Moya ^ 2, Soderling ^ 2, Berdych, F.Gonzalez, Blake, Querrey, Tursunov, Seppi.
Money Earned: $ 1,407,048.
ATP W/L: 71-90.
Challenger Titles: 5 [ Aachen ^ 3, Dusseldorf, Szczecin].
Futures Titles: 4 [ Friedberg, Angers, Kramsach, Mulhouse].

This guy is a great player when on, but since late 2010 he seems unable to string two good tournaments in a row. Good Luck Evgeny, at least I hope he gets back to Top-200!

  1. Thank you for the nice comment on the site!
I like this “oldies” post, Korolev is the kind of unseeded player we want to write about 🙂
