– Altough he was knocked out on R3 by Roger Federer, we can consider that Rome was a great tournament for Juan Carlos, considering that it was only his second tournament after his wrist injury ( lost on bizarre Madrid tournament R1 to Andreev). Firstly, he defeated big server and Top-35 player Kevin Anderson by 6-4 7-5, breaking the south african serve three times, and saving 7/8 break points. On R2, he defeated #13 seed Gaël Monfils by 7-5 6-3, recovering from a *4-1 deficit on first set. He really outplayed Monfils since then, playing great from the baseline, displaying also some great defensive skills, and making Monfils think on court, something the Frenchman doesn’t like, hence his 3-0 H2H vs Gaël. On R3, a bit too early to face a Top-4 he faced Federer, and with Roger playing some of his best tennis, he still managed to take a set off him, despite losing 6-2 5-7 6-1 it seemed that Juanqui was back. Hope injuries respect him and gets back at least to Top-30.
